Deborah Noland Witherington Talks Radiant Orchid and New Trends

How would you use Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014, Radiant Orchid, in a living space?

First, I would finally get to use some oversized favorite macro photography art by Harris Portfolios, http://www.harrisportfolios.com/. Then, with this perfect purple/pink, I would temper it with gray and various shades and hues of green.

What’s one cool new trend you predict for 2014?

I think we will see “back to black” as an interior trend.

If you had an unlimited budget, what is the first change you would make to your own home or personal space?

I would change all my built-in light fixtures to produce “narrow spot” LED light beams.  Most LED bulbs that are available to the public are “floods,” and you find that you have to purchase special housing to narrow the light beam.

What is the most difficult type of client to work with? What is your best advice for dealing with this type of client?

The most difficult type of client is one who constantly changes their mind. The best way to work with this type of person is by the hour. Also, either let them buy their own product wherever they want to get it, or preface all orders with a caveat stating all returns are subject to a 35% restocking fee. In the end, you will prefer all those returns become someone else’s headache.
