Lake Minnetonka's Jimmy Jam House

On the market for only four months, the house has brought a lot of attention with almost 40 showings and two offers that did not make muster.  Even with so much interest in so short a listing period, the bank has decided to let go and put it on the auction block.  Though no minimum has been announced for this large five bedroom, nine bath mansion, rumor has it that the minimum bid will be $3.8 million. The home also includes 296 feet of lakeshore, a 12-car garage, 14-seat movie theatre, elevator, two nanny-care suites,  a two-story master suite, indoor and outdoor pools, gym and game room, all secured behind a gated entry.

Auction time arrives on February 6th for Jimmy Jam’s stunning modern home.

New York Stone Victorian Mansion

The main house, placed on the Historic Register, is referred to as High Victorian style due to the eclectic era in which it was built, which tended to mix styles. With Overlook, Russell picked the most elaborate examples.  On approximately 15 acres, the mansion has exquisite details such as multiple fireplaces, practically one for every room including the entry foyer - none of which are alike. There are also multiple formal parlors and family recreation areas.  Period details are all in place such as elegant oak millwork, Tiffany-style stained glass and detailed parquet floors. The mansion was recently restored and operated as a five star bed & breakfast and event center.

Florida Coast Guard Beach Home

Educated at Harvard and chosen by “Architectural Digest” to be included in its “2014 AD100 Architects,” Toshiko Mori designed this dramatic contemporary home using an unusual technique with glass, building it on stilts to optimize the Gulf to Bay views.  Built on 2.5 acres of beachfront and Intracoastal Waterway, “West Wind” is comprised of 7,121 square feet with six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, den and bonus room on the interior with swimming pool and a two bedroom guest house that was once a Coast Guard barracks.  All this is surrounded by lush tropical landscaping, including over 60 varieties of palms, fruit trees and other vegetation.  The entrance from the ground is centered under the house’s center atrium with a partial glass floor that ushers in light from the glass atrium roof.  Architect James Carpenter designed a dichroic glass prism which diffuses daylight from clerestory windows into a spectrum of colors that change with the viewing angle.

Contemporary home designed by former Harvard architecture department chair, Toshiki Mori, includes former Coast Guard barracks – now a two-bedroom guest house.  Asking $9.9 million.

Tranquility Sells for $48 Million

For those attracted to heavy stone fortresses and very elaborate Rococo interiors reminiscent of Versace’s taste, Tranquility is the go-to dream house.  The lakefront mansion was built in 2000 on 210 acres by Joel Horowitz, former co-founder and CEO of Tommy Hilfiger, who now serves as co-chairman of the board of Diane Von Furstenberg.

It hit the market first in 2006 with a price tag of $100 million.  The 27,000 square foot residence, including the main house and guest house, has nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, a 19-seat movie theatre, opulent master suite wing, two-story living and dining and a two-story library and billiards room.  There is also an indoor basketball court, indoor atrium pool, a private lake with boat house, equestrian facilities, and two par-3 golf holes.  In addition is a six-car garage and staff quarters, a huge wine cellar-tasting room, and flooring reclaimed from a 17th century French chateau and from the New York City Public Library.  The staircase is a replica of the Titanic grand entry and the home’s bronze door was once owned by newspaper magnate, William Randolph Hearst.

Initially listed at $100 million and later reduced to $75 million, Tahoe’s Tranquility  just sold for $48 million.
