The Mediterranean-style 10,000 square-foot home of late American singer, songwriter and guitarist Tom Petty has been listed for $19M.

Pamela Van Ierland, the listing agent affiliated with the Malibu office of Coldwell Banker Realty and personal friend of Petty and his wife, Dana, described the loving and vibrant energy that the pair brought to this sanctuary. She described it as always being filled with music, laughter, and love, a property that Petty had greatly admired since the moment the couple bought it in 1998.

The estate sits on about 2.6 acres of land and consists of seven bedrooms, including the primary suite, which has French doors and an enormous closet. Rich dark wood flooring can be found throughout the house, as well as Spanish tiles in the bathrooms and vintage chandeliers in rooms across the property.

Some of the residence’s grand features include a music room -- which does not come as a shock -- a wood-paneled library, a chef’s kitchen, a gym, a massage room, a formal dining room that can seat 16 people, and a formal great room filled with hard-carved skylight covers -- as per Petty’s personal request. A one-bedroom guesthouse and studio, which Petty used to write and record music, can also be found on the property. All of these features are adorned with flat lawns, fountains, ponds, waterfalls, and a swimming pool.

While the location of the home might be set in the heart of Malibu, guests, including Ver Ierland, felt as though it was in the middle of nowhere, which was not like most celebrity homeowners in the Malibu area; however, Petty and his wife had preferred a home not so close to the beach and opted for a calmer and more tranquil environment when looking for their Malibu residence.

Van Ierland recounted memories of the home, much of which consisted of holiday celebrations and small heartfelt moments, including the time Petty taught her daughter how to play “Free Fallin” on the harmonica. As she brings the home to the market in the next few weeks, she expresses her yearn to find a buyer that has a connection to Petty and his music, ensuring that the estate’s history of passion, music and excitement is continued for years to come.

Tom Petty passed away in 2017, and since then, his Lake Sherwood residence, his custom-built Encino mansion, and his childhood home located in Gainesville, Fla., have been listed and sold. This Malibu estate is the last of Petty’s properties to hit the market.
