At Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty, our brokers make us who we are. Get to know a little bit more about Doug Labor, Broker Associate, and Manager of our downtown office at 56 9th Street.

How long have you been in the real estate industry, and why did you get into this business?

I’ve been in the business for 36 years. I initially got into real estate to work part-time, but realized substantial success early on and enjoyed it so much I made it my lifelong career.

What is your favorite thing about being a real estate broker?

Using my creativity and work ethic to make things happen for clients. Clients hire me to buy or sell properties and I love challenges and finding beneficial solutions where I know other brokers can’t.

What is something you have learned from being a real estate broker?

This is a service industry. Many brokers are in it for the wrong reason and people can get hurt from that. Brokers should work for their clients, and by doing so I’ve found the reward in longstanding friendships that have developed from the trust I have earned from my clients.

How long have you been in Steamboat and what brought you here?

We moved here in 1997 with a job offer as Director of Real Estate for the Steamboat Ski Resort.

Currently, what is your 2-3 sentence answer to the question: How’s the market?

As a professional who writes articles and gives presentations about the Steamboat Springs real estate market, this is a frequently asked question. I typically preface my answer by asking: “Are you a buyer or a seller?” There are always opportunities for both, and part of my job is to find the best opportunities for my clients no matter what side of the table they are on. Then I draw from my knowledge and research with information valuable to their situation.

Tell us about something in your work life that makes you very proud.

I am not one who touts awards, for they are the end result of a journey. However, I am the only Steamboat Springs real estate broker who has been twice named Steamboat Springs REALTOR of the Year and Best of the Boat REALTOR. These honors represent the respect I have earned from both my peers and the public on how I conduct myself and my business.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Spending family time with my wife and three adult children, playing hockey, golfing, camping, entertaining and enjoying the mountains.

What makes Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty unique?

The quality service we offer our clients on a local, state, national and international stage and the amount of giving back to the Steamboat Springs community.

What is one of your greatest personal accomplishments?

I am blessed with a wonderful family. I could not be more proud of how our children have grown to be caring and successful adults.

What are you passionate about?

Earning respect.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Yampa Valley?

The people! I have lived in a few resort communities and have not found a kinder, more caring community. The residents of Steamboat Springs are as genuine as you will find.
