Only an hour's train ride from New York City, Fairfield County sits on The Long Island Sound with many beaches and marinas. Kayaking, rowing, and fishing are also enjoyed on the several rivers that run through the County. Residents enjoy great shopping and restaurants. There are many theaters for those who want to catch a play or a concert. Late Westport resident Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward oversaw the rebuilding of the Westport Country Playhouse, which houses many touring shows. For children, there is so much to do in Fairfield County, CT, from apple picking at Silverman's Farm in Easton to visiting the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport or The Maritime Center Aquarium in Norwalk.
