Editor’s Note: Odalys Hernandez is the founder and principal of the highly-acclaimed design firm, House of Odalys. The firm’s core philosophy is a desire to show how change is good for yourself and your home.“I believe in order to be a good designer you need to have a sense of design details and how it will affect the lifestyle of the people living in that space.” Here, Haute Design sits down with Hernandez who gives us an inside look at her latest project situated in the heart of Miami at the Rise Residences at Brickell City Centre.
This apartment I designed at the Rise Residence at Brickell City Centre is a pied-à-Terre for my clients from LA. I wanted to give them something “out of the box” for Miami. For the main living area, I evoke all the brightness Miami has to offer and added black accents for that sophisticated touch.
I designed a combination of blue custom panels with molding on one side, and modern pale oak panels on the other side. On top of that, I added a custom blue wall unit to tie everything together. For me, it reflected our beautiful blue skies and soft sandy beaches. I commissioned local artist Nicole Salcedo to create an ink on paper piece that abstractly reflects South Florida’s fauna and flora.
In the bedroom, I kept to shades of natural seashells. I feel it’s important for the bedroom to be calming and create an ambiance of rest and relaxation. I added a custom-built TV unit with additional storage that includes mirrored doors for extra storage. Tall custom doors with brass hardware were made to provide the client with extra privacy in the bathroom at her request. This was a fun dream job, I got to play and the reaction from my client was priceless, she loves her new Miami condo.
