The Chapel (#16) of St. Elizabeth, located at 1314 Napoleon Ave., is arguably the most unique and luxurious condominium conversion in Uptown New Orleans with an equally intriguing history.

1

Centrally located between the downtown area of the city and Audubon Park, St. Elizabeth is a 47,000-square-foot, three-story brick edifice, consisting of three buildings boasting the largest cluster of Second Empire design architecture in New Orleans.

2

It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

3

The central portion was designed and built by Thomas Mulligan for the Daughters of Charity in 1865 to function originally as a girls' boarding school and then a girls' orphanage.

4

In 1880, the Prytania Street Wing was added and between 1883 and 1885, architect, Albert Diettel, enlarged the structure by adding the Perrier Street Wing and a mansard roof.

5

In 1989, the orphanage moved to Marrero and St. Elizabeth's was put on the market for sale.

6

In 1993, renowned author and New Orleans native, Anne Rice, purchased the property as a private residence and added the exterior angels on either side of the main entrance.

7

In the early 2000s, the KFK Group acquired St. Elizabeth to convert it into a condominium.

8

The project was completed in 2004, transforming the former orphanage into 28 distinct condominiums and five newly constructed townhomes, with shared amenities, including a beautiful pool and patio area.

9

The Chapel (#16) is a stunningly renovated 5,000-square-foot condo, with 24-foot-high vaulted ceilings, flanked by 17-foot stained glass windows and hardwood floors throughout.

10

Light pours into the open plan living room, dining room, and gourmet kitchen with Thermador appliances, Berloni cabinets, jeweled, mirror finishes, Caesarstone countertops, a butler’s pantry, and a wine room.

11

A centered, two-story tower houses the master bedroom with an en suite bathroom, heated mirrors and a 16-jet shower on the first floor, and two bedrooms with full bathrooms on the second floor.

12

Just off the tower is a screening room or study with a blood-red tiled full bathroom.

13 Amenities include a beautiful pool with two assigned parking spaces.
