A few miles south of Dublin, Ireland’s famous “Guinness Beer Castle” has just been listed for $29.5 million, Luxury Listings reported.
The castle, also called “Luggala,” was a gift from Ernest Guinness to his daughter Oonagh, formally known as Lady Oranmore and Browne. Guinness was the younger brother of Arthur Guinness, who founded the Guinness beer brand. Oonagh lived in the castle until she died in 1995, and the estate is now owned by a family trust.
Situated on 5,000 acres within the original 18th century gardens and surrounded by old Irish oaks, lawns, heather, and wildflowers, the renowned residence “Luggala” is a 19,099-square-foot former hunting lodge, comprised of 27 bedrooms and 18 full bathrooms.
Separate from Luggala, what is considered the “main house” has seven bathrooms, a dining room, three reception rooms, and a library.
A four-bedroom guesthouse, as well as seven lodges and cottages are also on the property.
Oonagh hosted extravagant parties in the castle, which, most likely, included generous pours of her family’s own beer. Partygoers would have included everyone, from high-society socialites and scholars, to actors, painters, and even tagalongs, according to Oonagh’s obituary in The Independent.
