Cipriani Residences Miami Reaches Major Construction Milestone with Groundbreaking Self-Climbing System

The iconic Cipriani Residences Miami continues to rise swiftly above Brickell’s skyline, marking a major construction milestone with the completion of Levels 7 and 8 — two amenity-rich floors featuring pools, spas, and intricate structural elements. What’s capturing industry attention now, however, is a cutting-edge construction technique that promises to dramatically accelerate the tower’s vertical progress: the self-climbing “slip form” system, also known as DOKA’s Super Climber SCP.

Implemented by shell contractor Tekton Construction and overseen by Moss Construction, the innovative formwork system is now being used to construct the tower’s core shear walls starting at Level 9, the first residential floor. Unlike traditional crane-dependent methods, this next-generation hydraulic system lifts the entire formwork structure — including interior and exterior wall panels — with the push of a button, one floor at a time. The result: faster, safer, and more efficient construction cycles.

While unconventional for many job sites, this technique is expected to yield excellent results for Cipriani Residences Miami. It enhances safety, reduces crane dependency, and allows construction to proceed multiple levels ahead of the typical slab work. This fast assembly and cycling not only increases jobsite production since it is optimized for fast forming times, but allows structures to be completed more rapidly and cost-effectively as well. As a self-guided computer-controlled system, the core does not require special laser leveling. Its storage allows for the reduction of crane picks, thereby minimizing the potential risks associated with flying material down to the ground level from higher heights, especially as the tower increasingly goes vertical.

So far, approximately 26,000 cubic yards of concrete and 7,500 tons of reinforcement steel have been poured and installed, respectively — equivalent to 2,600 truckloads of material. Level 8 alone included 500 cubic yards of concrete, showcasing the scale and complexity of the work involved. Remarkably, the project remains on schedule, a rare feat in today’s high-rise construction climate.

The transition to typical floor construction began with Level 9, introducing the signature curved balconies that will define the silhouette of the Cipriani tower. With the Super Climber SCP now in full operation, each new floor is expected to rise with unprecedented speed and precision.

Additionally, crews recently completed the installation of massive 18,000-pound steel plates through the core walls of the amenity levels, further highlighting the complexity and coordination required between Moss Construction, subcontractors, and the design team.

As one of Miami’s most anticipated luxury residential towers, Cipriani Residences is not only shaping the skyline — it’s also reshaping how buildings get built.

Cipriani Residences Miami is the renowned hospitality brand’s first-ever ground-up residential tower in the Americas set to rise 80 stories once delivered in 2028. Featuring 397 one- to four-bedroom residences starting at $1.7M, the tower’s interiors were curated by 1508 London with architecture by Arquitectonica. The top 18 floors feature The Canaletto Collection, a limited assemblage of six penthouses and 68 ultra-luxury homes offered priority access to amenities like the private speakeasy and for-purchase custom furniture and accessory packages. The tower’s premium amenity collection includes resident-only Cipriani dining services, a resort-style deck with two pools, and a spa with sauna and treatment rooms. The tower set an at-the-time record for the largest foundation mat pour in Brickell last year, following securing an impressive $600 million construction loan from Mexico’s Banco Inbursa and Ascendant Capital Partners.
