Bobbie McCallum Talks Radiant Orchid and 2014 Trends

bobbie-mccallum

How would you use Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014, Radiant Orchid, in a living space?

This is a color that can easily be used on pillows or throws to update and enliven a space, and it’s especially wonderful in a predominantly gray or cream living area. It would also make a fabulous bedroom wall color.

What’s one cool new trend you predict for 2014?

Shoe storage ottomans!!!!  I designed one for myself and upholstered it in red leather. It’s awesome. Everyone should have one!

If you had an unlimited budget, what is the first change you would make to your own home or personal space?

I’d expand my already gorgeous Master Bath/Dressing area and include a fireplace!

What is the most difficult type of client to work with? What is your best advice for dealing with this type of client?

The most difficult client is a couple that fights. Fortunately, I haven’t had many of these. My best advice is to be careful to communicate clearly and consistently with both parties at all times, acknowledging their differences. Stay out of the fray when it gets intense, then use your best design creativity to propose a solution.
