Editor’s Note: B+G Design is an award-winning South Florida based interior design firm that was founded in 2006 by Brett Sugerman and Giselle Loor Sugerman. Haute Design sits down with B+G Design Inc. who gives us an inside look at their latest project in Coral Gables, FL.
What was the inspiration behind this project?
We were inspired by the historic architecture of Coral Gables and wanted to put a B+G modern spin on it.
Can you share a little bit more about the overall process of bringing this to life?
We worked very closely with the developer and their sales team to understand the target market. We were originally brought in as consultants but soon became responsible for the entire project’s interior design. We ended up re-laying out the floor plans for each of the 33 units, selecting all of the standard finishes, and designing the residential and commercial lobbies, pool deck and public spaces. We then created a fully furnished model unit in one of the two-story townhouses.
What was it like to work directly with the developers of this property?
We quickly created a rapport with the young development team who were very open-minded and relied upon our experience to help them realize their vision. We became friends through the process and look forward to working with them again.
Can you give us a bit of insight into what the planning process if like when designing floor plans of units and common areas?
Brett & I are truly “form follows function” kind of people—to that end we wanted to figure out a way to pack in as much utility and storage into the everyday spaces, which is something we find lacking in typical condo design. We pushed for over-sized bathrooms and closets as well as rooms that accommodated the lifestyles of the empty-nester demographic we were expecting would be drawn to this project.
What is your favorite aspect of this project?
We love the floor plans that we came up with. We really feel they stand out from the competition.
