Editor’s Note: California-based firm Angus-McCaffrey Interior Design designed this home in Atherton, California that warms the heart upon entering it.

A home nestled in Atherton, California surprises as soon as you walk through the front door. From the exterior, the traditional Mediterranean style gives no hint at the clean lines and light-filled rooms that await inside.  The client’s art collection is masterfully showcased and becomes a beacon in the home epitomizing Angus-McCaffrey’s skillful symbiosis of art and furnishings.

In the family room, a black and white abstract by James Nares is complemented by metal and woven cord chairs, as well as a vintage coffee table from Coup D’Etat, creating a light and casual space for the family to relax.  Ellsworth Kelly’s Dark Green Panel dramatizes the already moody office by its commanding presence above the glass and steel desk only softened by the vintage barrel chairs in Edelman leather.

The kitchen’s Walker Zanger tile backsplash is married with the custom cabinets by CalCase and painted in Farrow & Ball’s Skimming Stone is fresh, timeless and light.

In the breakfast room adjacent to the kitchen, a custom orbital chandelier from Rewire is suspended above a Holly Hunt table lends sophistication to the room.  Atop the mantel in the living room artwork by Caio Fonseca adds a gesture that is graphic in nature, the vintage sofa is upholstered in a Perennials velvet and the custom six-foot-long stone coffee table brings a delightful play on asymmetry.
