A Wedding Gift like None Other

Michael Hirtenstein, successful businessman and prominent New York figure, recently sold his well-known Gramercy Park townhouse to two very lucky buyers.

Lauren Santo Domingo, contributing editor for Vogue, and her husband Andres Santo Domingo, only married in January but are already the proud new owners of a home that could easily be called a grand masterpiece in the heart of New York. The home was once used as an eclectic showcase of sets for programs by cable network Showtime. Interior designers created each room in the home to echo each different series. For instance, the dining room has faux blood sprayed on the walls and furniture wrapped in white vinyl to emulate a Dexter vibe. On the opposite end of the Showtime spectrum, the living room has a massive marijuana bush and hemp flooring to take after Weeds. There’s no word yet on whether the newlyweds will keep the show-inspired décor in place but if we had to make a guess, we’d say it’s not very likely.

The Greek-revival style palace is five stories tall and 27 feet wide. It features 20 rooms, a landscaped garden, and a key to Gramercy Park. It also boasts 16-foot-high ceilings and still has original elements such as detailed marble mantelpieces, a gorgeous stained-glass skylight, and mahogany doors, all dating back to 1847 when the spectacular mansion was built.

After a pricing battle with the amount constantly increasing and decreasing, according to The New York Observer, the price was cut to $20 million in February, exactly two years after Hirtenstein bought the impressive property. But according to Cityfile, the Santo Domingos paid a cool $18.5 million for it instead. Not too shabby for an incredible home with features that would bewilder even the most exclusive.
