Luxury label Hermès has decided to change its location after one hundred and seventy years on the right bank of the Seine. The label will be opening a new exclusive store at 17 Rue de Sèvres in the ritzy Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood of Paris. Built in 1935, the new 1,470 square-meter store is located in a building filled with rich history.
Designing the interiors was assigned to Denis Montel and the RDAI agency—the architect firm that creates and designs all Hermès stores. Upon entering the building on the ground floor, visitors see four unique wooden huts, ” each following a distinct organic form designed by a complex computer geometry script.” Three large skylights in the ceiling provide natural light to the entire venue and at night, the skylights are lit.
The building was home to the Lutétia swimming pool and during the renovation, the architects preserved as much of the pool as was feasible. The elements of the original pool have been restored and preserved such as the mosaics, broken tiles and granito.
