Raffle Mania

Need a fresh start? A new life, a new home, a new car? Bypass the hassle of a dwindling real estate market and have a raffle instead. No muss, no fuss, and a new happy owner. Millionaires, Andrew Paul in England and the Brannans, a couple in Florida, are doing just that.

Paul hopes to sell 200,000 tickets at £20 each, which would result in a net sale of £4 million. First prize is a choice between his £1.1 million, five-bedroom home or both his £160,000 Aston Martin DBS car and his £200,000 Sealine 35 Sport motor boat, along with £85,000 to help with maintenance and expenses. Cold hard money sound more appealing? Opt for £1 million cash instead of boat, car or home. It’s not just luck that will win you this raffle. The winner will be selected based on who can correctly guess where a golf ball will end up in a photograph.

In a very similar approach, the Fort Lauderdale couple hopes to sell 300,000 tickets for $10, but will give a portion of proceeds to The Mission of St. Francis charity.  That equates to $3 million. Their six-bedroom, $2.35 million home includes a theater room equipped with a 120-inch television, four-car garage, pool, and backyard dock on the waterway. If not all tickets are sold by December 25, 2009 a 50/50 drawing will be held with 50 percent of the sales going to charity and the other 50 percent to the winner.

Good luck and may the best man win.
