Pricey Flips in Brooklyn’s Clock Towers
By Allison Medoff

The most expensive apartment ever sold in Brooklyn is back on the market. The penthouse at Clock Towers was bought for $7 million just nine months ago, by two separate couples. Oddly enough neither moved in to the 3,208-square-foot loft.
Lifestyle consultant, Anh-Tuyet Nguyen and Robert B. Pollock, president and CEO of Assurant, have been investing real estate with Alan Freiman, commercial real estate investor and Michael Armijo, a money manager and photographer, for years. Listing broker Karen Heyman explains their decision not to occupy the space was not due to conflict. “They never planned on dividing it, believe me.” The two couples have real estate all over the east coast, west coast, and Europe and are presently looking for joint endeavors in Spain or France.
The five-room penthouse, overlooking the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges is now on the market for $8.5 million. That’s $1.5 million more than what the four owners bought it for. The jump in price is the result of a redone floor and more open space. Buying out of the question? Rent the place for a mere $22,000 per month.
Once David Walentas, the man who bought the 250,000-square-foot building in 1978 for $1.5 million, sells his penthouse, $8.5 million will look like a bargain. Located a floor higher, with the tower’s clocks as his windows Walentas plans to release his pad for a considerably larger sum.
