Fighting Over the French Villa
By Kris A. Moore

The world’s most expensive home was on the market last summer and the public was very interested to know the identity of the buyer. The home is Villa Leopolda, an expansive villa located in Villefranche-sur-Mer in the South of France. Apparently a Russian billionaire (quite possibly Russia’s richest man, Mikhail Prokhorov) gave a $55 million deposit on the luxury French villa, but after signing a contract decided he wanted a refund. The current owner, Lilly Safra, publicly announced that she refused to let this happen and that she would donate all proceeds that may be available from the deposit on the home to charities and research. The current sale of the French mansion, which carried a price tag of €350 million, has now been halted and the home is no longer on the market.
