Living up High

The Burj Dubai (LINK: http://www.hauteliving.com/ny/sepoct-2008-dubai/big-ambition/) has been one of Haute Living’s fascinations since it was announced years ago. Not only was it slated to be the tallest building in the world, with its final height a close-kept secret in order to deter competitors, the residences are done by Armani Casa, making a place at Burj Dubai one of the poshest pads in the desert. Even the Beckhams were reportedly looking at the Burj’s condos (LINK: http://www.luxist.com/2009/01/04/will-the-beckhams-move-into-the-burj-dubai/) just last week. (Both David and Victoria are Armani models, so perhaps they are being paid in domiciles? I digress…)

When The Burj reached what was to be its final height (and what a massive height, coming in at 818 meters, or 2,684 feet), we were obviously thrilled at the developer’s accomplishments, despite the fact that at least four other projects in the region—as well as Federation Tower (link: http://www.hauteliving.com/fl/junejuly-2008-simmons/moscow-rising-in-miami/) in Moscow—plan on scraping the sky even at even higher points. But the Burj is not ready to let its “Tallest building in the world” superlative go without a fight. The plans have been modified to include a telescopic spire that can be raised to untold heights in order to maintain The Burj Dubai’s status as the biggest, and therefore the best.
